How to feed a chameleon

Remember that chameleons should only be fed live bugs!

Cup feeding — My favorite

Pros:

  1. Bugs stay gutloaded and supplemented

  2. Can count how much your chameleon eats

  3. No risk for injury

  4. Chameleon will eat even if you’re not there (great for vacations)

Cons:

  1. Doesn’t work for crickets

TOng feeding

Pros:

  1. Build trust with your chameleon

  2. Bugs stay gutloaded and supplemented

  3. Can count how much your chameleon eats

Cons:

  1. High risk for injury

  2. Chameleon is dependent on you in order to eat

Hand feeding

Pros:

  1. Build trust with your chameleon

  2. Bugs stay gutloaded and supplemented

  3. Can count how much your chameleon eats

Cons:

  1. Medium risk for injury

  2. Chameleon is dependent on you in order to eat

Free feeding

Pros:

  1. Chameleon gets to hunt food

  2. Most naturalistic

  3. Chameleon will eat even if you’re not there (great for vacations)

Cons:

  1. Bugs don’t stay gutloaded and supplemented

  2. Hard to count how much your chameleon eats

  3. High risk of bugs escaping outside enclosure
